A trained policy economist turned lawyer, Prashant Kumar is a co-founder and Senior Partner of Trinaya Legal. Kumar, with 20 years of legal practice and thought and idea leadership, is an expert in finding ethical solutions for legal issues, and specialises in dispute avoidance and resolution. He brings on table a 360 degree view of legal, policy and regulatory environment in India to help his clients navigate India, and succeed by turning challenges into opportunities and problems into solutions. He has dealt with diverse field of legal practice from constitutional, commercial and civil matters to arbitration, intellectual property and information technology law, apart from Infrastructure, power, public-private partnership and anti-dumping.

 

When Indian Central Bureau of Investigation was entrusted with probing overlays contracts for New Delhi Commonwealth Games, he was able to convince Supreme Court to appoint an arbitration panel to adjudicate non-payment disputes, including allegations of fraud and collusion.

Kumar has been involved in various important constitutional matters relating to pricing of natural resources, dissolution of Legislative Assembly, disqualification of members of Assembly, powers of Speaker of the House, powers of Governor, election matters, appointment of judges to higher courts and prevention of corruption matters.

 

He is President Elect of the Bar Association of India, Immediate Past President of Lawasia, and has helped formation and structuring of BRICS Legal Forum, including development of dispute resolution framework for BRICS and Emerging Economies and currently is member of Search Committee for International Legal Assistance Consortium. He has helped form, support and implement initiatives to find solutions to critical rule of law related issues across jurisdictions and cultures, while heading an active legal practice.
